6 Speed Shifter Install
The shifter in all likelihood should take no more than 30 minutes to do on your car.
  • Start by opening the console lid and removing the coin holder, you will then notice (2) 7mm sheet metal screws. Remove them and remove the shifter knob, then carefully pull the upper console up just enough to access the plugs for the ciggarette lighters, diconnect them and set the upper console in a safe place.
  • Next remove the middle ash tray and locate the 10mm sheet metal screw in the center there, remove it, then remove the (2) 10mm sheety metal screws from inside the console, they are located almost in the middle of the console storage area. Lastly, remove the (2) 10mm sheet metal screws from the front of the console just under the dash located on either side of the console.
  • Now, pull the console up just anough to remove the bolts that hold the emergency brake to the floor, once you have done that, you can now safely move the console out of the way.
  • Next, locate the two 13mm bolts on the shifter lever and remove them and remove the shifter lever.
  • Next, locate the (7) 7mm sheet metal screws holding the rubber shifter boot to the floor and remove them and pull the boot up and off the shifter.
  • Next remove the (4) 13mm bolts that hold the shifter to the floor and remove the shifter. It is going to be stuck in there pretty good so be prepared for a fight. I have found it easier to re-install the shifter handle for better leverage when doing this.
  • Next, put a clean shop towel in the exposed portion of the transmission and carefully scrape off the gasket sealer from the edge of the mating surface, while you are doing this, inspect the plastic ball cup and make sure it is not excessively worn or broken, replace if necessary.
  • Now, lay a thin bead of Permatex gastek sealer to the transmission shifter mounting area and carefully set the shifter body into place making sure the ball goes into the cup for proper engagement. Now, install the four bolts supplied with the shifter and tighten them down.
  • Next, set the shift stops the way Pro-5.0 recommends (Note: I have found that it's always better to warm the car up before setting the shift stops, so drive the car around the block a few times and then perform this duty) and then carefully trim away the very top portion of the rubber boot and then re-install the shifter boot and tuck the rubber boot under the gold portion of the shifter body and re-install the the 7mm sheet metal screws.
  • Lastly replace the e-brake and the console and put your shift knob back on. Viola! Enjoy your hard hitting shifter
